One of the North East’s leading companies has announced its backing for the Festival of Thrift.
The Festival has unveiled multinational chemical company SABIC, which has its UK headquarters based at Wilton near Redcar, as a major partner for this year’s event on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September.
The partnership seeks to build on SABIC’s commitment to global sustainability and its drive to integrate environmental responsibility into its business.
Stella Hall, Director of the Festival of Thrift which attracted over 35,000 visitors in 2016, said that the Festival was excited to welcome SABIC as a partner for the event.
“SABIC’s stated commitment to embedding sustainability into its business model is to be applauded and we are delighted to be working with the team at the Teesside Site.
“Like the Festival, SABIC is rooted locally but with a global reach, making us a powerful joint force to spread important messages about how to lessen our impact on our planet.”
Daren Smith, site director (acting) SABIC, said: “As part of our Corporate and Social Responsibility policy, we believe that business plays an important role in developing solutions to the global environmental challenges that we are all facing. We are delighted to be able to help support this family event, which is right on our doorstep but mirrors our commitment to global sustainability.
“As one of the area’s biggest employers SABIC is also backing the Festival’s bid to help boost the local economy.”
Daren continued: “A lot of hard work is going into re-building the local economy after the blows suffered in recent years and the Festival is playing its part in revitalising the area which we are also very keen to support.”
SABIC is also throwing its weight behind the Festival’s call for volunteers with a request to its 630 members of staff to get involved.
Stella Hall added: “We had some amazing volunteers at last year’s Festival are we are now on the hunt for some more fabulous folk to lend a hand at this year’s event so we are thrilled that SABIC is also encouraging its staff to take part and share their skills.”
The 2017 Festival of Thrift takes place on 23 + 24 September at Kirkleatham Museum and Grounds. Further details: www.festivalofthrift.co.uk
