Call-out for emerging north east artists to apply for Festival of Thrift commission

The search is on for up and coming artists in Teesside and County Durham to create artworks for the 2017’s National Festival of Thrift working with Middlesbrough arts organisation Navigator North.

The call-out is for emerging artists living or working in the region to apply to receive a bursary to create new work for the event as part of Navigator North’s Latest Edition project.

This is an opportunity to work with Navigator North, Festival of Thrift and established artists Nick Kennedy, Theresa Easton and Alex Sickling to create new work which will then be toured to three regional exhibition venues in 2018 including Palace Arts in Redcar, The Witham in Barnard Castle and Hartlepool Art Gallery.

Three artists will be selected from the call out who will then be supported by the more established and experienced artists and arts professionals to help them build valuable experience, connections and genuine sector specific skills to enhance their career in the arts.

The selected artists will each receive a £1,000 bursary which includes mentoring and technical support as well as promotion and networking opportunities and exposure to new audiences with the potential to sell their artwork.

The Latest Edition bursary is available for emerging artists living or working in Teesside or County Durham of any age to build experience and knowledge in developing a sustainable career.

An optional call out event for artists is being held on Tuesday 4th July, 3.30pm – 5pm at Kirkleatham Hall where people thinking of applying can find out more about the Festival of Thrift site and the project.

Anyone who would like to attend the call event at Kirkleatham should email to book their place.

The application pack and application form can be downloaded at

Deadline for applications is 9am Friday 7th July.

The 2017 Festival of Thrift takes place on 23 + 24 September at Kirkleatham Museum and Grounds.  This fifth national celebration of stylish and sustainable living will focuses on growing and the power of nature and how people can be empowered by sharing differing points of view of the world as well as ideas, thoughts, experiences and skills.
