Day out in Redcar

Start your day in Redcar with a visit to Redcar Beacon (free admission, open from 9am until 5pm).  Walk up the 132 steps or take the lift.  Grab a cuppa in the 2 storey café and take in the 360 degree views before making your way back to the seafront.

Then head over to the Zetland Lifeboat Museum  (free admission, open from 11am until 4pm, 60 The Esplanade, TS10 3AH).  Home to the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world, built in 1802, the Zetland is part of the National Heritage Fleet.

Spend the rest of the afternoon at the beach .  The stretch near Redcar Lifeboat Station has gained a Seaside Award for its cleanliness and good water quality, perfect for building sand castles, winkling and relaxing in the sun.  Make sure you call into Pacitto’s for their famous lemon top ice cream (29, High Street, TS10 3BZ, open until 4.30pm).
