Info:

Textile artist Allan Brown spends seven years making a dress by hand, just from the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles. This is ‘hedgerow couture’, the greenest of slow fashion and also his medicine. It’s how he survives the death of his wife and finds a beautiful way to honour her. A modern-day fairytale and hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft. Watch this unique documentary and pre-recorded Q&A to find out more about Allan Brown’s approach to green, slow fashion.

Update

Come along from 5.30pm and meet members from the Durham Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers. This small group meets monthly, in Durham, sharing skills, running workshops and attending local events, to keep these age old crafts alive.

A few members will be bringing  spinning wheels and spindles to add some background to the skills used by Allan Brown in the making of the Nettle Dress.  They’ll bring plant fibres, like flax, to spin and let you have a go, as well as answering any questions you might have about working with plant fibres.
Presented with support from BFI, Cinema For All and Film Bank Media.

Access: Yarm Wellness Centre is wheelchair accessible, with groundfloor disabled toilets.

High Church Wynd is cobbled which can be a bit slippery when wet. If you have mobility issues, we do recommend they access the Centre from the West St end.
